Wallpaper Manufacturer in NJ

Proposition:
A customer in New Jersey had 3 Rotogravure presses manufacturing wallpaper products. The customer wished to add a fourth press and enclose the entire press room with an EPA approved Permanent Total Enclosure (PTE) to qualify for 100% capture efficiency. The existing ink mixing room had inadequate ventilation. The customer wanted to improve the working environment with a more effective exhaust system and qualify the room as a PTE for the assumption of 100% capture efficiency. The existing oxidizer and the connected ductwork were sized for the existing exhaust requirements but unable to accept the proposed additional flow volume and solvent loading.

Resolution:
An SES engineer evaluated the existing system and studied the feasibility of the proposed additions where he determined that the objectives were realizable. The engineer, working in conjunction with plant personnel and contractors, planned the modification of the oxidizer and assisted in the rebuild for a flow capacity increase of 40%. At his direction the ductwork was designed and installed to handle the additional flow requirements. The ink room exhaust system was improved and the room re-structured to meet the EPA requirements as a PTE for the assumption of l00% capture efficiency. The SES engineer designed a Permanent Total Enclosure (PTE) for the Press Room, including the new press room which, when installed, met the EPA requirements for 100% capture efficiency. At re-start of all equipment, SES rebalanced the presses and oxidizer to the new flow parameters and unofficially tested the overall efficiency at 98%. Official testing as prescribed by the NJDEP reconfirmed the unofficial results at 98%.
